We MUST know about ALL pets in the home.

Include all pets in the pet care  information – dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, birds, etc.

Each pet needs to go in separate, yes, the fish should go in your profile as one pet.

If we see a pet in your home while you are away and we do not see them on the care sheet, – WE WILL TAKE CARE OF THEM AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED ACCORDINGLY, WE CAN NOT AND WILL NOT IGNORE ANY PET.

ALL pets in the home must be included in EVERY pet care visit for the entire reservation.  We will not care for dogs on all visits and the cat on just one visit.  No animal will be ignored and will be included in every visit.  The ONLY time we will not include ALL pets, will be when we are walking dogs while an owner is at work and the owners will be home morning and night of that day.

If a neighbor/friend/relative/any person  is caring for a pet, we need to know in the office prior to your start date, their name and phone number for emergency.

Client certifies that all pet(s) vaccinations are up to date and not overdue for any vaccines (if for whatever reason the pets are not up to date, Client knows and assumes all risks/liabilities and client releases PPSE from all liabilities). Pet(s) must be healthy or ACCNH/PPSE must be informed of any & ALL health related problems.  Client agrees to Veterinary Release below and consents to contents within.

WALKING PETS

For safety of pets, all dogs that need to be walked, must have a tightly fitted, escape proof collar/harness and leash.

Dogs must walk easily and properly on leash with no pulling, bolting, etc.

For all dogs that can not be walked safely on a regular collar and leash, a training collar may be substituted for pets and pet sitter safety.

All pets will only be walked in areas that are safe low traffic areas with sidewalks.  Any areas that have safety issues, other dogs, debris, etc., alternate safe areas will be found, or pets will be exercised only in yards.

Maximum of two dogs can be walked at a time and only if pet sitter feels that both dogs walk properly for the safety of dogs and sitter.  Otherwise dogs will be walked separately within the time constraints of the paid visit.

All safety decisions are at the discretion of the pet sitter and our office.

Whenever there is a safe and completely fenced in yard, we will play with your pets in your yard because they will receive more time and exercise playing with the pet sitter in your yard than by walking slowly down the street. It is also safer for pets and pet sitter.

AGGRESSIVE/BITING PETS

BIRDS, RABBITS, REPTILES, OTHER EXOTICS, LARGE ANIMALS – LLAMAS, HORSES, ETC.

With the exception of dogs and cats, all other pets are determined by the office on a case by case basis. In most cases, caged pets will not be removed from cages while being cared for.

Birds,  if birds are not comfortable with strangers or if bird tries to bite, we must be able to access food/water dishes from the outside of the cage.  For clean cage bottoms, client will place the correct amount of cut newspaper or cage liners in the bottom of the cage so that the pet sitter just removes the top soiled layer.  If there is more than one type of bird and bird food, CLEARLY mark which food goes with which bird (place by correct cage as well).

Rabbits, hamsters, mice, etc., we will give fresh food and water but the pets must be okay with strangers, no charging, snapping or biting.  Cleaning cages is not routinely done and extra time must be scheduled with the office.  When cleaning, only soiled shavings/paper will be removed and replaced.  No washing, scrubbing or rinsing.

If we do care for llamas, goats, horses, ducks, etc. we will only give fresh hay, pellets, grain and water.  We cannot lug water buckets, so access to water close to the animals is required.  We must be able to give food and water from outside the enclosures for liability.

CHICKENS –

we have  a large number of clients with Chickens

Chicken Care –

LETTING IN & OUT
We can not let chickens in and out.
We have limited time and some chickens just do not want to go in at night.
They will need to be left inside unless they have access to in and out 24/7.

OTHER ANIMALS
We can not be responsible if any animal gains access to your chickens and there is any damage to fencing or coop or fatalities resulting from this.
Latches and locks should work easily and properly.

FEEDING
All food and water should be easily accessed, near the coop and easy to administer.
If you give alot of fresh vegetables supplements, please make up your mixture ahead, place one portion in each ziploc bag, and let us know to take one bag for each feeding.

WATER
A hose should be used to fill their water all year long, including winter.
Our insurance prevents us from lugging water to and fro.
You must prevent anything from icing in the winter.

EGGS
We can remove any eggs from the nesting boxes,
Let us know where you wish for us to put them
Some clients lets us take eggs, please let us know in your profile that you are okay with this.

CLEANING
If any cleaning must be done, it should take no more then a total of 5 minutes.
If you have multiple nesting boxes, some people line them with multiple layers so we only need to grab the top layer that is soiled.

ROOSTERS that attack or are aggressive –
Our sitters must be safe. You will be liable for any and all injuries.
If you have an aggressive bird, you may want to contain him in an area where we can give food and water from the outside with no interaction.
Or if we can give food and water without gaining access to the entire coop, that would be fine as well.
If the ROOSTER becomes too much, we may have to let you know we can not continue pet care.

MEDICAL ISSUES
If you have any medical issues with your birds, we have no knowledge of medical issues with Chickens.

For Outside planters/garden/lawn watering, hoses and sprinklers must already be set up.  We will turn outside water on at our arrival of the pet sitting visit and shut the water off when we leave.  We will not re-position hoses/sprinklers.

Inside planters, Please leave watering cans, directions, and when to water.  All plants to be watered are to be placed in ONE area, such as the kitchen or bathroom  We are not plant specialists & are not responsible if plants do not thrive.  If watering plants takes more then 5 minutes (this will take time away from pet care), add extra time and charges (on your reservation, choose service – add 15 minutes).

Filling bird feeders is something we are requested to do time from time.  We will fill bird feeders if you are away for 7 or more days and we are pet sitting for at least one visit per day.  The maximum number of bird feeders is 5 & must be in an easily accessible place.  In the winter you must provide clear path ways to feeders from all snow & ice. Again, this must take 5 minutes or less from time for pet care.  If not,  add extra time and charges (on your reservation, choose service – add 15 minutes).

Again, Keep in mind that any plant care or bird & wildlife feeding takes time away from your pet care.

We MUST know of any & all persons coming/going from your property for our safety and yours, or police may be called on anyone we may deem an intruder.

Client releases ACCNH/PPSE from all legal/financial/medical liabilities when other people have access/keys to home.

We prefer to not share responsibility because of past experiences of miscommunication, over feeding, missed or double administration of medications, and we do not know the other people.

However, we understand there are times additional care may be necessary.  In these cases we MUST know everything, who will be in your home, their phone numbers, addresses, etc.

Instruct anyone else allowed in or on your property, coming or going while you are away to make sure all gates, doors, etc. are locked and all pets are accounted for.

MECHANICAL WATER FOUNTAINS, PET CARE DEVICES

Devices such as Littermaid litterboxes, automatic feeders, water fountains

We prefer to not use any mechanical pet care devices.

If you have a Littermaid Litterbox, automatic feeder or something remotely like these devices in anyway, we prefer to not work with the devices due to constant unreliability, faulty mechanics and power unreliability.

We have had electronic litterboxes continually run if litter becomes stuck or is too high blocking the electronic eye.  The motor soon burns out and will need to be replaced.  If the llitterbox starts working while a cat is in it, the cat may get scared and not use the litterbox again.  Some cats have been hurt as well.

Water fountains can be an electric hazard, especially if cords are chewed on.  They are very hard to get completely cleaned leaving mold and mildew in crevices and corners.  Many are very hard to refill and if the water becomes too low or if hair or something else blocks the intake, the motor will burn out.

Electric food dishes have quite a few problems.  Timers stop working, batteries run out.  If there is a power outage, it will stop working as well.  If the food dish closes while the cat is eating, it may scare the cat and some may not use it again or if the cat is rushing trying to eat everything before it closes, a cat may become harmed.

These feeders are NOT to be used for canned food, which should only be left unrefrigerated for 2 hours or less (it is a meat product).

Read our article – How Long Can Canned Food Be Safely Left Out

We can not use up time to read instruction manuals for any device, replace parts or batteries nor take a part to clean.

Please place a regular litterbox next to it and we will scoop out the regular litterbox and use regular feeding/water dishes,  we will fill with food/water.

If we need to use these mechanical devices for ANY reason, you as a client will release PPSE from all legal/financial/medical liabilities including partial or full replacement for any reason, any mechanical failure for any reason whether it was client’s or petsitters mistake, pet’s fault, power failure, manufacturer problem, etc.

Absolutely NO money/credit card refunds or credit for services will be issued for any reason due to malfunctions pertaining to all mechanical devices/automatic feeders/waterers/litterboxes(NO EXCEPTIONS).
